About Us

The Chicago Dragons RFC, a D3 member of the Chicago Area Rugby Football Union (CARFU), Midwest Rugby, and the International Gay Rugby Association and Board (IGRAB), is seeking interested candidates to join our coaching staff

Length of Commitment:

Short to Long Term.

The Dragons' Spring 2010 season will culminate in our participation in the once-every-two-years IGRAB World Cup, The Mark Bingham Cup, to be held in Minneapolis, MN from June 17-20. Past versions of the event have been held in locations such as San Francisco, London, New York and Dublin, and have seen participation from over 600 players from approximately 28-30 worldwide teams making this event the largest amateur rugby tournament in the world.

We are looking for coaches who are willing to help us in our short-term quest (late-March through June) to win the Bingham Cup with the option of staying longer. Our long term goal is to field a sustainable championship-caliber team in CARFU and IGRAB. In addition to our Midwest/CARFU schedule, the Dragons often play IGRAB home-and-away friendlies against teams from cities such as Atlanta, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Nashville, Minneapolis, Madison and others.

While these are unpaid positions at this time, we offer the opportunity to coach in a high-profile international and national stage plus team-provided travel expenses, registration and lodging costs associated with the 2010 IGRAB World Cup, the Bingham Cup. Qualifications:

In keeping with USA Rugby's recent coaching requirements clarification, we ask that only those candidates who are CIPPed and licensed to coach or those who will attain both prior to the start of our spring season training (late March) consider applying. Individuals with long-term playing experience and with an interest in transitioning to coaching are especially encouraged to apply.


While we are mainly seeking coaches with expertise in Backs play and Attack/Defense tactics, we welcome and invite candidates with experience in all areas to join our staff.
