The Chicago Dragons are looking for a new Head Coach!

Founded in 2003, we are a Division III & IV member of the USA Rugby organization, the Midwest Rugby Union, and the Chicago Area Rugby Football Union (CARFU) dedicated to competitive play within our division. We are also the first team to accept openly gay men in the Midwest, the first team in the Midwest to formally join International Gay Rugby (IGR), and have been a guiding force in our local union and throughout the Midwest to increase awareness and diversity in the sport of rugby. 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Promote optimal levels of player development
  • Create performance targets to ensure team success
  • Ensure the safety and welfare of all members
  • Foster an environment based on respect, hard work, and discipline
  • Promote good sportsmanship
  • Coordinate with assistant coaches and board members for practice planning and implementation
  • Assist in teaching new members how to play rugby
  • Attend all matches, home and away
  • Assist with recruitment activities


  • USA Rugby coaching certification
  • 3+ years of rugby coaching experience
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Strong communication skills, written and oral
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge in/experience working with both forwards and backs
  • Strength and conditioning certification or experience a plus

Location: Chicago and Greater Chicago Area

Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7PM-9PM (Practice); Matches on Saturdays throughout the Spring and Fall

salary: Negotiable
